…may I ask though what is wrong with what is not “natural’? I don’t personally support using photoshop and such while asserting the pretense of natural features. But say the editing were acknowledged - would there then be room to consider it a kind of digital art form?

The argument you’re making could technically be applied to cosmetics, or any kind of paint, or binders for the body, corsets or anything that fiddles with what is “natural” to create a new appearance. If “fake” = not natural, then artificial hues and contours and any kind of alteration to the body by the same logic is also fake.

I’m sorry I just don’t think that approach holds water. It shoots holes in the entire concept of cosplaying, at least in the sense of matching your appearance to something you don’t just wake up looking like. I understand preferring naturalness, but there’s some incredible creativity with cosmetics and costumes to completely change one’s looks from their natural appearance…

I think what the actual problem with editing, whether in regards to cosplaying or to magazines, is when people try to pretend it’s untouched. When the pressure to actually look this way is so high, people will lie and try to deceive you into believing this is a realistic minimum standard of (usually feminine) beauty.

It may help if editing were promoted as art unto itself, and it was considered acceptable to concede openly that you edited yourself for effect. Magazines too should be viewed as straight male-oriented canvases, not photo albums… you see what I’m saying?

Hello,
I do see what you’re saying but I also think you’ve missed half of the details. Alterations of the body in person such as binders for woman or men, or cosmetics is all still able to be seen while in person (meaning the alteration has an affect and not necessarily “seen” but is still real).  That not fake because it’s real beyond the photo, so I’m not going against that at all.

For a quick example, say a cosplayer goes out of their way to put on a perfect smile for a character for a photo, and they pull it off and they’re so happy that they could bring this signature smile of this character to life through them. Then in another photo, someone just shooped their mouths to be the way they needed it. Being in costume and cosplay is effort, we put a lot of dedication into what we do and someone gaining tons of love over something that isnt actually on them is unfair.

To make this short I hope that clears a lot of that up. I just simply think that if someone is being glorified as an amazing cosplayer in a photo, that they should also look that way in person too.  :)

For those of you getting ready for con season (ahem, Kamicon), here’s an easy way to remove old makeup stains! Mix a bit of blue dish soap and peroxide together and scrub the stained area with it.

OMG YES

Dino kid Loki!
on the other hand it looks like I’m actually packing a dinosaur into my bags lol.

I’m absolutely convinced that there is some kind of viking hair stylist on Berk because Hiccups hair does some crazy side-parted and layered pretty boy flips and no one can tell me otherwise. I’m guessing its Gobber.

Anyways! I restyled my old Hiccup wig into the new Hiccup wig! Very pleased with it. I’ll probably make the braids a bit bigger.

Really proud of this one!!! :)
